Soles de Mexicali is one of the 14 teams that will participate in the 2026 season of the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP). LNBP President Sergio Ganem has insisted that the goal is to reach 20 teams by 2028. The LNBP emerged in 2000 and reached its peak of participants in the 2006 and 2007-08 seasons with 24. For a franchise to debut or return, it must meet certain requirements and undergo an analysis of between three and four months, emphasized General Commissioner Alonso Izaguirre. Soles de Mexicali seeks to improve its performance in the 2026 season after an irregular campaign in recent years. The team has a solid roster and good technical direction. The LNBP still hasn't found the exact formula to consolidate all its teams, as happened recently with Xalapa. Halcones de Xalapa, for example, was the runner-up in 2024 and does not appear in 2026. It was replaced by Lobos Plateados de Puebla. Sergio Ganem added that there is a fairly extensive checklist and that it is becoming more comprehensive, but they are talking about connectivity, territoriality, population number, infrastructure, and a series of situations that are basic to evaluate the entry of a team. The LNBP aims to grow six teams in two seasons, which looks like a major challenge. The imperative to reach 20 teams in 2028 is because that will be the last year of Ganem's presidency, a tenure that began in 2016. Soles de Mexicali and the LNBP are working hard to achieve this goal and improve the competitiveness of the league. The 2026 season promises to be exciting with the participation of teams like Abejas de León, Astros de Jalisco, Correcaminos de Tamaulipas, Diablos Rojos del México, Dorados de Chihuahua, El Calor de Cancún, Freseros de Irapuato, Fuerza Regia, Gambusinos de Fresnillos, Lobos Puebla, Mineros de Zacatecas, Panteras de Aguascalientes, Santos del Potosí, and Soles de Mexicali. The LNBP is one of the most important basketball leagues in Mexico and seeks to establish itself as one of the best in Latin America.
